Chris Tucker

Christopher Tucker was born on August 31, 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia. Raised in a Pentecostal Christian household, he learned early that humor was a way to gain attention. His father operated a janitorial service. Tucker moved to Los Angeles in 1990 to pursue comedy, drawing inspiration from Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. He became a regular on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in 1992, noted for his clean, non-vulgar routines, and made his film debut in “House Party 3” in 1994.

Tucker gained significant recognition in 1995 for his role as Smokey in “Friday” alongside Ice Cube. His career progressed rapidly with appearances in “Dead Presidents” (1995), and a busy 1997 with roles in “The Fifth Element,” “Money Talks” (where he also served as executive producer), and Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown.” His international fame solidified with the role of Detective James Carter in the “Rush Hour” film series, beginning in 1998 with Jackie Chan. This franchise proved to be a major success, leading to two sequels.

In 2006, Tucker secured a $25 million deal for “Rush Hour 3,” making him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood at that time. Following a break from acting, he returned to film in 2012 with an acclaimed performance in the Oscar-nominated “Silver Linings Playbook,” co-starring Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper. He also returned to stand-up comedy and released “Chris Tucker Live” on Netflix in 2015. More recently, he appeared in “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” (2016) and portrayed Howard White in the 2023 film “Air.” Tucker also dedicates substantial time to humanitarian efforts through the Chris Tucker Foundation, focusing on youth and family initiatives and supporting charitable organizations.
