Challen Cates

Challen Cates was born on September 28, 1969, in Roanoke, Virginia, USA. Her career in entertainment spans over three decades, encompassing acting and film production. Early in her career, Cates appeared in various American television series, including “Cybill,” “Roseanne,” and “Diagnosis Murder.” She transitioned into significant production roles in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 1999, she served as an executive producer for “A Fare to Remember,” where she also played the main character. This was followed by her role as co-executive producer and lead actress in “The A-List” in 2001. In 2003, she took on the lead female role in the independent film “They Would Love You in France,” further solidifying her presence in independent cinema.

Cates gained wider recognition for her recurring role as Mrs. Jennifer Knight on the Nickelodeon original series “Big Time Rush,” which aired from 2009 to 2013, appearing in 57 episodes. During this period, she also featured in several “Big Time Rush” movies, including “Big Time Audition” (2009), “Big Time Concert” (2010), “Big Time Christmas” (2010), and “Big Time Beach Party” (2011). Her television work continued with appearances in popular shows such as “Monk,” “CSI: NY,” “Criminal Minds,” and “Desperate Housewives.” In 2007, she was part of the TV movie “The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning.” Her recent work includes “13 Reasons Why” (2020), “Walkaway Joe” (2020), and “Fourth Grade” (2021).

Beyond her acting and producing career, Challen Cates is also a winemaker, owning and operating Challen Winery in Santa Maria, California.
