Charles Woodson made history in 1997 by becoming the first primarily defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy, a recognition of his unparalleled versatility as a cornerback, punt returner, and occasional wide receiver for the University of Michigan. During his collegiate career, Woodson led the Wolverines to an undefeated season and a share of the national championship in 1997. That same year, he earned the Walter Camp Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Jim Thorpe Award. Prior to his collegiate success, Woodson was awarded Ohio’s ‘Mr.
Football Award’ in 1994. In 1998, he was selected as the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders and immediately made an impact, earning the AP Rookie of the Year Award in his debut season after recording five interceptions. Woodson’s illustrious 18-season NFL career spanned with the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers. He amassed an impressive 65 interceptions, ranking fifth all-time in league history.
Beyond his celebrated athletic career, Woodson has developed a successful wine label and in 2025, further diversified his post-playing career by becoming a limited partner in the Cleveland Browns, continuing to build on his leadership and impactful brand.
