Garrett Muagututia is a talented American professional volleyball player who is a member of the United States men’s national volleyball team. Over a long and successful career Muagututia has had the luxury of playing in an assortment of different countries in the Outside Hitter position, including Finland, Poland, Portugal and Greece. As of 202 he has played for the prestigious Egyptian club Al Ahly.
Muagututia showed great athletic promise as a youngster, which is no surprise considering that his father is a former United States Navy SEAL and was a competitor for American Samoa in the 1994 Winter Olympics. After four impressive years playing collegiately at UCLA, playing for the UCLA Bruins from 2006 to 2010, Muagututia commenced his professional career. He’s known for his natural leadership abilities and how consistent he is on the court. In the 2017/2018 season he was instrumental in winning the Portuguese Championship with Sporting Clube de Portugal, and in the following season 2018/2019 he won the Greek Cup with PAOK Thessaloniki. Such was the impression he made in the latter that he was also given the Most Valuable Player award in 2019.
Muagututia was part of the national team which won gold at the 2014 FIVB World League, silver at the 2019 and 2022 FIVB Nations Leagues and bronze at the 2019 FIVB World Cup. A superbly entertaining player to watch who brings a wealth of experience and control to any game, Muagututia will continue to be one to watch as he enters the twilight of his volleyball career.
