About

Born on August 6, 1982, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Charlie Whitehurst embarked on his football career early, attending Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, Georgia, where he was a three-year letterman in football and a four-year letterman in baseball. His athletic pursuits continued at Clemson University, where he played college football. A significant achievement during his college tenure was becoming the first quarterback to record a 4–0 record against the University of South Carolina in their rivalry series, including a 63–17 victory in 2003. Whitehurst graduated from Clemson in December 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and began graduate school in 2005. He concluded his college career with 9,665 passing yards, 49 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions.

Whitehurst’s professional football journey began when he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the third round (81st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. During his first stint with the Chargers, he played in two regular season games in 2006, rushing for a touchdown in his debut against the Tennessee Titans. He later moved to the Seattle Seahawks in a trade in 2010, signing a two-year contract. In Seattle, he made his first career start in 2010 due to an injury to the starting quarterback and helped the Seahawks clinch the NFC West division title in 2011. He returned to the San Diego Chargers in 2012 for a second two-year contract.

He then joined the Tennessee Titans in 2014, signing a two-year contract and replacing Ryan Fitzpatrick as the backup quarterback. With the Titans, he achieved career highs in completions (105), pass attempts (185), and passing yards (1,326), along with seven touchdowns and an 87.4 passer rating in seven games with five starts. He later played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2015 and the Cleveland Browns in 2016, where he made one appearance before being released with an injury settlement. Whitehurst’s professional career spanned from 2006 to 2016.
