Chase Budinger

Recognized as the Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year in 2006, Chase Budinger demonstrated exceptional athletic prowess across multiple sports. In 2006, he led his basketball team to a CIF San Diego Section title while concurrently steering his school to three state championships in volleyball. The same year, Budinger was honored as a McDonald’s All-American, sharing Co-MVP honors with Kevin Durant and finishing as runner-up in the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest. He continued his basketball career at the collegiate level, playing for the Arizona Wildcats from 2006 to 2009.

Following his time in the NBA, Budinger moved overseas, playing for Saski Baskonia in Spain during the 2016-2017 season. In 2017, he made a pivotal career decision, retiring from professional basketball to fully dedicate himself to beach volleyball. He made his debut on the AVP tour in 2018 with Sean Rosenthal, later partnering with experienced Olympian Casey Patterson in 2019. Budinger’s commitment to beach volleyball quickly yielded international success, as he collected several prestigious accolades on the World Tour.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Budinger and Miles Evans delivered a strong performance, securing a 9th-place finish. His remarkable journey underscores a unique ability to excel at the highest echelons of two distinct professional sports, transitioning from a high-level team sport in basketball to a demanding individual sport on the international stage of beach volleyball. This demonstrates his exceptional versatility, adaptability, and unwavering drive, making him a compelling figure whose story resonates across diverse audiences.
