Olympic gold medalist Chase Kalisz is a competitive swimmer from the United States who specializes in individual medley competitions. He won the 400-meter individual medley Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics silver medal, and two gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships.
From 2012 until 2017, Kalisz raced for the University of Georgia’s swimming and diving team as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs, where he won three NCAA championships. With a time of 3:38.05 at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Kalisz captured his first NCAA title in the 400-yard individual medley during his first season of collegiate swimming for the Georgia Bulldogs. He became the event’s sixth-fastest swimmer in history and the fastest at his age. In the race, Kalisz also bettered the University of Georgia record he had previously held by more than 1.7 seconds.
At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Kalisz finished third in the preliminary heats of the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:10.32, moving through to the final in front of Léon Marchand, who was rated first, and Carson Foster, who was ranked second. In the evening final, the trio matched their placement from the preliminary rounds, with Carson Foster taking home the silver medal, Léon Marchand taking home the gold, and Kalisz taking home the bronze in 4:07.47.
