Chase Utley

Chase Utley has transitioned from a renowned MLB second baseman to an ambassador for baseball and a dedicated advocate for animal welfare. After being drafted 15th overall by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2000 amateur draft, Chase Utley made his MLB debut on April 4, 2003, hitting his first major league grand slam just weeks later on April 24, 2003. Becoming a full-time starter in 2005, Utley delivered a breakout season with a .291 batting average, 28 home runs, and 105 RBI, earning him the prestigious Mike Schmidt Most Valuable Player Award. His consistent excellence led to a significant 7-year, $85 million contract extension in 2007.

Continuing his illustrious career, Utley achieved his 200th career home run in 2013 and signed a 2-year, $27 million contract extension. In 2014, he started at second base for the National League All-Star team, a year that also saw him reach his 300th career double and 1,500th career hit. In 2015, Utley was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he contributed significantly, reaching his 1,000th career RBI and 400th career double in 2017. He officially announced his retirement from professional baseball in 2018.

Following his impactful 16-season MLB career, Utley formally retired from playing in 2019. He has since transitioned into an influential ambassador for baseball, named MLB’s Ambassador to Europe in 2022, actively promoting the sport internationally. Demonstrating his dedication to causes beyond the field, Utley and his wife, Jennifer, are committed animal welfare advocates.
