Marzia Bisognin, born on October 21, 1992, in Arzignano, Italy, began her journey into public prominence with the creation of her YouTube channel, ‘CutiePieMarzia’, on January 16, 2012. Her content primarily revolved around fashion, beauty, makeup, DIY projects, books, movies, travel vlogs, haul videos, and video gaming. Despite being Italian, Kjellberg consistently produced her videos in English, which contributed significantly to her global appeal. Her channel’s growth was rapid, and by May 2014, The Wall Street Journal reported that her videos attracted over 16 million viewers monthly, primarily targeting females aged 13-24 who looked to her content for guidance and inspiration. This substantial audience allowed her to become a key figure in the beauty and makeup genre on YouTube. During her YouTube career, she frequently collaborated with her husband, Felix Kjellberg, better known as ‘PewDiePie’, appearing in his videos for gaming and challenge content. This cross-platform presence further solidified her reach and engagement within the online community.
Kjellberg’s digital success served as a launching pad for several entrepreneurial endeavors. In March 2015, she initiated her first fashion and design line. This expanded to include multiple merchandise lines over the years, featuring nail polish shades, home decor items, and various clothing collections. Notably, in 2016, she designed ‘Daisy’ shoes through Project Shoe, and in July of the same year, she launched a product line in collaboration with the nail polish brand Zoya. Her creative output also extended to publishing, with a young adult fantasy/horror novel titled ‘Dream House: A Novel by CutiePieMarzia’ released in January 2015. She also ventured into voice acting, lending her voice to characters like Carrie the Carrot in ‘Oscar’s Hotel for Fantastical Creatures’ and Maya in the animated web series ‘Pugatory’.
In October 2018, Kjellberg announced her retirement from YouTube, citing mental health concerns and a desire for new experiences. Prior to her departure, her channel had accumulated almost 7.5 million subscribers and over 128 million video views. Following her retirement, she removed most of her video content. Post-YouTube, Kjellberg continued her focus on design and commerce. In June 2017, she launched ‘Lemon’, a clothing line accompanied by a fragrance. She also founded ‘Maìa’, a brand offering jewelry, pottery, clothing, and home decor, with many ceramic items handcrafted by Kjellberg herself from her UK studio. Additionally, she co-owned ‘Tsuki Market’, a unisex clothing and homeware brand with her husband Felix. Both Maì and Tsuki Market ceased operations by 2023. In May 2022, she and Felix relocated to Japan, and in February 2023, they announced they were expecting their first child, who was born in July 2023.
