Chizzy Akudolu

Chizzy Akudolu, born Andrea Chizoba Akudolu on October 7, 1973, in London, England, UK, is an actress, producer, and writer. Her career began to gain momentum in 2002 when she was a winner of the BBC Talent Initiative, The Urban Sketch Showcase. This early recognition led to her first television appearance in the BBC sitcom ’15 Storeys High’, followed by a role in ‘EastEnders’. Over the years, Akudolu developed a diverse acting portfolio, featuring in children’s series such as ‘Stupid!’, ‘Nuzzle and Scratch’, ‘Scoop’, and ‘Gigglebiz’, alongside adult comedies like ‘Green Wing’, ‘Roman’s Empire’, and ‘The Complete Guide to Parenting’. A notable turning point in her acting career was her portrayal of Angel in the 2008 horror mini-series ‘Dead Set’.

Akudolu’s career progressed significantly with her long-standing role as surgeon Mo Effanga in the BBC medical drama ‘Holby City’, which she held from 2012 to 2017, and then returned for guest appearances in 2018 and 2022. This role garnered her critical acclaim and recognition, including a nomination for the “Emerging Talent” award at the 8th Annual Screen Nation Awards.
