Chris Matthewss political career began in Washington, D.C., initially serving as an officer with the United States Capitol Police. He then contributed to the staffs of four Democratic Members of Congress, including Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie. After an unsuccessful bid for Pennsylvania’s 4th congressional district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974, Matthews served as a presidential speechwriter during the Carter Administration.
He further shared his insights as a commencement speaker at Ohio State University in 2014 and Merrimack College in 2015. Following his retirement from ‘Hardball’ in March 2020, Matthews published ‘This Country: My Life in Politics and History’ in 2021. He returned to MSNBC in September 2022 as a political analyst for the ‘Morning Joe’ program, continuing to offer his seasoned commentary on the national political landscape.
