Christian Panucci

In July 2017, Christian Panucci added a fresh chapter to a career already defined by trophies and longevity, taking charge as head coach of the Albania national team. It marked the latest step in a post-playing path that began when he retired in 2010 after a final season with Parma, then moved into punditry with SKY Italia and the dugout as Fabio Capello’s assistant with the Russia national side from 2012 to 2014.

Born in Italy on 12 April 1973, Panucci came up through Genoa before joining AC Milan in 1993, where he broke into one of the greatest defences in football history alongside Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, and Mauro Tassotti. There he won two Serie A titles and the 1994 UEFA Champions League, featuring as a left-back in the 4–0 final victory over Barcelona, and collected the Bravo Award that same year. In 1996 he followed Capello to Real Madrid, adding a 1997 La Liga title and a second Champions League in 1998.

Spells at Inter Milan, a loan to Chelsea, and a season with Monaco preceded his 2001 move to Roma, where he spent eight years under Capello, winning consecutive Coppa Italia titles in 2007 and 2008 plus the Supercoppa Italiana. Internationally, he earned 57 caps for Italy between 1994 and 2008, scoring 4 goals, and appeared at the 1996 Olympics, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2004, and UEFA Euro 2008, where his header against Scotland sealed qualification and his goal against Romania made him Italy’s oldest scorer at 35.

His adaptability defined him throughout: a right-back who could play on the left, and later a centre-back prized for his strength in the air. Now available for bookings, appearances, and football speaking engagements, Panucci brings decades of elite experience across Serie A, La Liga, the Premier League, and European management.
