Actor and filmmaker Christine Lahti has enjoyed major success on both sides of the camera and on Broadway. In 1995, she starred in and directed the short film Lieberman in Love, which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. She was also nominated for the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1984 movie Swing Shift and won a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for one of her best-loved roles, Dr Kathryn Austin in Chicago Hope. More recently, she has been enjoying success as one of the stars of supernatural drama series Evil.
Lahti hails from Michigan. She studied Fine Art in Florida before returning north to train as an actor at the legendary HB Studio in Greenwich Village, New York, and the William Esper Studio in Manhattan. Her first film role was in the 1979 Oscar-nominated drama …And Justice for All, but it was 1984’s Swing Shift that proved her major breakthrough. Although the film wasn’t a commercial success, Lahti was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar and Golden Globe. By the end of the decade, she had been nominated for more major awards thanks to her roles in the ambitious miniseries Amerika and drama film Running on Empty.
In 1995, Lahti joined the second season of Chicago Hope, becoming an integral part of its cast for the next four years and earning numerous awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series. Her more recent succesess, such as Evil and The Blackout, are proof that her best days are far from over.
