Coach Gary Patterson

Coach Gary Patterson is an acclaimed football coach with a distinguished career leading the TCU Horned Frogs, bringing extensive experience in leadership, team development, and competitive strategy. After being named a finalist for the Frank Broyles National Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2000, Coach Gary Patterson went on to lead the Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs to unparalleled success for over two decades. Patterson initially joined TCU in 1998 as defensive coordinator under Dennis Franchione, where his expertise quickly transformed the team’s defense, notably leading the nation in total yards and points allowed per game in 2000. Following Franchione’s departure, Patterson was appointed head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs in December 2000.

Patterson’s leadership solidified TCU’s football program, leaving a lasting legacy until his departure in 2021. Since concluding his impactful tenure at TCU, Coach Patterson has continued to contribute his strategic insights to college football in advisory roles, notably at the University of Texas and Baylor. His enduring influence and contributions to the sport will be recognized with his induction into the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.
