Jacoby “Coby” Fleener was born on September 20, 1988, in Lemont, Illinois. He attended Joliet Catholic Academy for high school before playing college football at Stanford University from 2008 to 2011. During his collegiate career with the Stanford Cardinal, Fleener distinguished himself as a tight end, recording 96 receptions for 1,543 yards and 18 touchdowns. His performance earned him First-team All-American honors in 2011 and led the Pac-12 in yards per reception that same year. His notable college achievements include six receptions for 173 yards and three touchdowns in a 40–12 victory over Virginia Tech in the 2011 Orange Bowl.
Fleener was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft as the 34th overall pick, reuniting him with his college quarterback, Andrew Luck. He played for the Colts from 2012 to 2015, where he made his NFL regular season debut contributing significantly to the team’s offensive game. A key highlight in his NFL journey was his first career 100-yard receiving game in Week 11 of the 2013 season against the Tennessee Titans, where he made eight receptions for 107 yards. In 2014, he further solidified his role with 51 receptions for 774 yards and eight touchdowns. In March 2016, Fleener signed a five-year contract with the New Orleans Saints, playing for them in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He finished his NFL career with 87 games played, 255 receptions, 3,080 receiving yards, and 22 touchdowns before being released by the Saints in May 2018.
Beyond his football career, Fleener has demonstrated an interest in other areas, describing himself as an “amateur developer” and actively seeking interesting partnerships. He has also taken on advisory roles related to health and technology. His experience with concussions during his playing career led him to become an advisor for SyncThink, a company that utilizes eye-tracking technology to assess cognitive function. Furthermore, he joined the athlete advisory board of TeachAids, an organization focused on health education. These roles highlight his post-NFL efforts to engage in meaningful projects and leverage his experience for broader impact.
