Cole Whittle

Cole Whittle’s career in music began to gain prominence as the bassist for the glam-pop band Semi Precious Weapons. During his tenure with Semi Precious Weapons, the band released three studio albums. This period provided foundational experience in the music industry, culminating before his involvement in a new musical project.

In 2015, Whittle became a founding member of the dance-rock band DNCE, alongside Joe Jonas, Jack Lawless, and JinJoo Lee. His role as bassist and keyboardist was central to the band’s sound. DNCE signed with Republic Records and released their debut single, “Cake by the Ocean,” in September 2015, which achieved significant commercial success, peaking at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. The band released their debut extended play, “Swaay,” in October 2015, followed by their self-titled debut studio album in November 2016. DNCE also gained visibility through appearances, including a cameo on Fox’s “Grease: Live” in 2016, and touring as an opening act for artists such as Selena Gomez on her Revival Tour (2016) and Bruno Mars on the 24K Magic World Tour (2017–2018). The band also received several awards and nominations, including winning Best New Artist at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and Best Push Act at the 2016 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Beyond his work with DNCE, Whittle has also engaged in film projects. He is credited in the music department for “Pauly Shore’s Vegas Is My Oyster” (2011) as band: bass. In 2017, he served as the production designer for the short film “Into the Black.” After DNCE went on an indefinite hiatus in 2018, Whittle did not return to the band when they reunited in 2022, choosing instead to focus on his solo music career.
