Connie Sgarbossa

Connie Sgarbossa began her career in music with her brother, Ethan Sgarbossa, and Taylor Allen, forming the hardcore punk band SeeYouSpaceCowboy in San Diego, California, in 2016. Before this, Connie and Ethan were involved in bands such as Flowers Taped to Pens and René Descartes. SeeYouSpaceCowboy quickly gained recognition for its blend of sasscore, mathcore, and metalcore, along with its outspoken political messages, advocating for LGBTQ+ representation, veganism, anti-racism, and anti-capitalism. The band’s name is derived from a phrase seen in the anime “Cowboy Bebop.”

In 2019, SeeYouSpaceCowboy signed with Pure Noise Records, a significant step that led to the release of their compilation album “Songs for the Firing Squad” (2019). This compilation included earlier work and new tracks that indicated the band’s evolving sound. Their debut full-length album, “The Correlation Between Entrance and Exit Wounds,” was released on September 27, 2019, and was critically acclaimed, being named one of the 50 best metal albums of 2019 by Loudwire. The band continued to release music, including their second studio album, “The Romance of Affliction,” on November 5, 2021, and their third, “Coup de Grâce,” in April 2024.

Sgarbossa’s tenure with SeeYouSpaceCowboy was marked by her distinctive vocal style and her commitment to the band’s political and social messages. However, in January 2025, Sgarbossa signaled her departure from the band due to disagreements surrounding a tour with Dance Gavin Dance, a decision that stemmed from her long-standing concerns about the band’s direction and partnerships. Her exit marked the end of an era for SeeYouSpaceCowboy, a band she co-founded and fronted for nearly a decade, during which she consistently used her platform to advocate for various social causes.
