Cory Rooney is the CEO of the Cory Rooney Group and a Grammy Award-winning songwriter, record producer, and songwriter from the United States. Among the musicians with whom he has written, produced, and constructed successful songs and careers are Mariah Carey, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson, and Destiny’s Child. Over 100 million copies of his albums have been sold worldwide, with many of them selling over one million.
His parents, ‘The Exciters” Herb Rooney and Brenda Reid, traveled with ‘The Beatles’ in the early 1960s, therefore he comes from a musical family. In the 1990s, Rooney and Prince Markie Dee of the Fat Boys released two solo albums, including Prince Markie Dee’s Billboard No. 1 Rap Single “Typical Reasons (Swing My Way).” Rooney and Prince Markie Dee formed the group Soul Convention after being signed by Sony Music. He went on to produce Mary J. Blige’s “Real Love” and “Sweet Thing,” as well as Father MC’s “I’ll Do 4 U” for Uptown Records. He was employed as a producer by Tommy Mottola, who later promoted him to Epic Records’ vice president of A&R in 1994.
On MTV’s “The Shop” and VH1’s “Born to Diva,” he served as an executive producer. “The Shop” is set in Mr. Rooney’s Barbershop in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Rooney acted as one of the panel judges for VH1’s “Born to Diva” in addition to his role as executive producer. Rooney formed the Cory Rooney Group (CRG), which represents two up-and-coming musicians as well as writers and producers. The company’s major areas of interest include television music, fashion, and publishing.
