Best known for her work as part of the Drag Coven queer media collective, Courtney Conquers is a multi-talented writer, drag performer and videographer. Co-created by Conquers and fellow Canadian drag artist Ja’mie Queen West, the Drag Coven have travelled America and Europe documenting as many kinds of drag as they possibly can in an attempt to capture the rise of drag as a prominent element of pop culture. The Drag Coven has also amassed an impressive social media following since 2014, with the platform becoming the world’s biggest contemporary online drag media archive.
Conquers is no stranger to travel after growing up in an Air Force family and moving around Canada, the US and Europe as a child, and her nomadic upbringing helped develop her outgoing personality. Talented as both a swimmer and a dancer as a child, she tricked numerous musical theatre directors into handing her lead roles thanks to her natural ability as a crowd pleaser. After earning a degree at Carleton University, she stayed on to study a master’s degree in women’s and gender studies and wrote a thesis on Lady Gaga and identity activism. She also co-created the Free Bitch TV Lady Gaga fan YouTube channel and even met her pop idol, dancing on stage with her.
Her love of Gaga also led Conquers to discover the iconic TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race, and as part of the Drag Coven she began to take fangirling to a whole new level, travelling the continent and beyond to meet and dress as drag queens from the show and otherwise.
When the multi-talented Conquers isn’t on the road with the Coven she works as a successful writer, producing course materials on hair styling, makeup and wedding planning for a global online school.
