Born on July 3, 1992, in New Hyde Park, New York, Crystal Alyssia Soubrier (née Dunn) was raised in Rockville Centre, New York. She attended South Side High School, where she was a four-year starter as a forward and midfielder, captaining her team in 2008 and 2009. Dunn played a crucial role in leading her high school team to New York state championships in 2006, 2007, and 2009. She missed the 2008 season due to national team commitments but still recorded 46 goals and 35 assists in three high school seasons. Her exceptional talent earned her numerous accolades including Parade All-American and New York Gatorade Player of the Year. She was recognized as the 2009 NSCAA, ESPNRise, and Parade High School All-America.
Dunn continued her collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she majored in sociology. From 2010 to 2013, she played for the North Carolina Tar Heels, starting 23 matches in her freshman year and leading the team in points with nine goals and eight assists. Her college career was marked by significant achievements, including winning the 2012 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship and being awarded the prestigious Hermann Trophy in 2012 as the best college soccer player in the nation. She was also named ACC Athlete of the Year and ACC Defender of the Year in 2012, followed by ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013.
Professionally, Dunn was the first overall pick in the 2014 NWSL College Draft by the Washington Spirit. She made a significant impact in the NWSL, winning the Golden Boot and the MVP award in 2015, becoming the youngest player to achieve both honors at 23 years old. Her club career has included stints with Chelsea FC in England in 2017, where she helped them win the FA WSL Spring Series, and was a key player for the North Carolina Courage, winning NWSL titles in 2018 and 2019. More recently, she played for Portland Thorns FC, winning the NWSL Challenge Cup and NWSL Shield in 2021, and the NWSL Championship in 2022. She briefly joined Gotham FC in 2024 before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2025. On the international stage, Dunn has been a vital part of the United States women’s national team, winning the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
