Damian Lamonte Ollie Lillard Sr. was born on July 15, 1990, in Oakland, California. His early basketball career saw him transfer high schools multiple times—from Arroyo to St. Joseph Notre Dame, and finally to Oakland High where he excelled, averaging 19.4 points as a junior and 22.4 points and 5.2 assists as a senior. Despite this, he was only a two-star recruit by Rivals.com and received limited interest from colleges. He ultimately accepted a scholarship to Weber State, a Big Sky Conference program in Ogden, Utah, seeking to distance himself from his challenging Oakland neighborhood. This early journey instilled a strong work ethic, which would define his illustrious career.
At Weber State from 2008 to 2012, Lillard quickly established himself, earning Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Big Sky honors in his freshman year with 11.5 points per game. He led the Wildcats to a conference championship as a sophomore, increasing his scoring to 19.9 points per game and receiving his first Big Sky Player of the Year award. A foot injury forced a medical redshirt during the 2010–11 season, but he returned stronger in 2011–12, averaging 24.5 points and finishing second nationally in scoring. He earned third-team All-American honors and his second Big Sky Player of the Year award before forgoing his senior year for the NBA Draft. Later, in 2015, he completed his degree in professional sales from Weber State University.
His NBA career began in 2012 when the Portland Trail Blazers selected him sixth overall. From his debut, Lillard made an immediate impact, earning unanimous NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2013 and setting a rookie record for three-pointers made in a season. He earned nine NBA All-Star selections, seven All-NBA Team selections, and led the Trail Blazers as their all-time leading scorer. Known for his clutch performances, earning him the nickname “Dame Time,” he also secured a gold medal with the U.S. Olympic team in 2021 and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. In 2023, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he won the NBA All-Star Game MVP and the NBA Cup in 2024. After a brief return to the Trail Blazers in 2025 following a serious Achilles injury, he continues to evolve his career beyond playing, accepting a general manager position for the Weber State Wildcats men’s basketball program. Off the court, Lillard is also known as a hip-hop artist, Dame D.O.L.L.A., with multiple albums and a record label.
