Daniel Howell established a significant online presence with the launch of his YouTube channel, ‘danisnotonfire’, in October 2009. After dedicating himself full-time to video blogging, he quickly cultivated a substantial following, frequently collaborating with Phil Lester to form the popular entertainment duo ‘Dan and Phil’. Their success extended to traditional media, with Howell presenting the Sunday night entertainment show on BBC Radio 1 from 2013 to 2014, and subsequently ‘The Internet Takeover’ until 2016. In 2013, he and Lester won the Sony Golden Headphones award for their radio show.
Howell continued to evolve his brand, changing his primary YouTube channel name from ‘danisnotonfire’ to ‘Daniel Howell’ in May 2017. He released the party board game ‘Truth Bombs’ in October 2017 and announced his second major world tour, ‘Interactive Introverts’, in November 2017. The tour successfully embarked from April to September 2018, playing to audiences globally. Following a hiatus from YouTube, Howell published his solo mental health guide, You Will Get Through This Night, in May 2021, which became a Sunday Times Bestseller.
He returned to YouTube in May 2022 and subsequently launched his solo comedy tour, ‘We’re All Doomed!’, which ran from September 2022 to March 2023. Most recently, Howell presented the Channel 4 documentary The Cost of Being a YouTuber: UNTOLD in June 2023. The ‘DanAndPhilGAMES’ channel saw a revival in October 2023, and in June 2024, Howell announced his third joint international tour with Phil Lester, ‘Terrible Influence’, scheduled for 20242025, further cementing his multifaceted career across digital, literary, and live entertainment.
