Daniel Lissing

Daniel Lissing was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on October 4, 1981. He began his acting career with appearances in Australian television series like “Home and Away” in 2006, playing Dave Elder, and a recurring role as Heath in “Packed to the Rafters” from 2008 to 2009. His early work also included parts in “Out of the Blue,” “Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities,” and “Cops L.A.C.” These initial roles established his presence in the Australian television landscape. In 2011, he took on a more significant role as Conrad De Groot in the series “Crownies.” Simultaneously, he ventured into film with credits including the shorts “Whiteline,” “Multiple Choice,” “The Game,” “Fidelity,” and “Entwined.”

Lissing transitioned to U.S. television in 2012, securing a role as Lt. James King in ABC’s “Last Resort,” directed by Martin Campbell. This marked a turning point in his career, allowing him to work alongside actors such as Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman. Following this, he starred as Jack Thornton in the Hallmark Channel series “When Calls the Heart” from 2014 to 2018, a role that gained him considerable recognition. During this period, he also appeared in the feature films “The Cure” (2014), where he played Ryan Earl, and “John Doe: Vigilante” (2014), alongside the short film “The Answers” (2015). His television work continued with recurring roles in “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” (2015–2016) and a guest appearance in “Timeless” (2017) as Jesse James. He also portrayed Sterling Freeman in “The Rookie” from 2019 to 2021.

His career also includes several television films for Hallmark and Great American Family, such as “A December Bride” (2016), “Christmas in Love” (2018), “A Christmas Star” (2021), “Catering Christmas” (2022), and “Christmas Keepsake” (2023). Beyond acting, Lissing is a singer/guitar player who has performed for Australian troops overseas, an effort for which he received formal recognition from the Australian Defense Force. Inside Film Magazine recognized him as one of “Australia’s Rising Talents.” He married Nadia Lissing in early 2020 and obtained dual citizenship in Australia and the United States in 2020.
