About

Daniel MacPherson was born in Sydney, Australia. He studied at Sydney Boys High School and was accepted into Mensa at age 10. His professional acting career began in 1998, when he joined the Australian drama ‘Neighbours’ as Joel Samuels, a role specifically created for him. During his nearly four years on the show, MacPherson received recognition, winning a Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 1999 and being nominated for Most Popular Actor in 2001. After leaving ‘Neighbours’ in 2002, he moved to London, expanding his theatrical experience by starring in the stage musical ‘Godspell’ and later in ‘The Mysteries’ in 2004, playing the role of Jesus opposite Edward Woodward. His work in the UK also included a role as PC Cameron Tait in the television series ‘The Bill’ from 2003 to 2005, for which he earned a British Television Award nomination for Best Newcomer in 2004.

Upon returning to Australia in 2005, MacPherson continued his career in television, appearing in the UK-Australian co-production ‘Tripping Over.’ He subsequently took on the role of Detective Simon Joyner in ‘City Homicide,’ which was a leading Australian program in 2007. Concurrently with his acting roles, MacPherson has also been a host for various popular Australian television shows. He hosted multiple seasons of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘The X Factor,’ establishing a presence in live television. In 2010, he played Jason Oliver in the film ‘The Cup,’ followed by a lead role as Jack Keenan in the Channel 7 Western ‘Wild Boys’ in 2011, for which he received a silver Logie Nomination. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2012 to further his acting career, taking on a lead role as Whit Carmichael in Shane Abbess’s science fiction film ‘Infini’ in 2013/14, which was critically acclaimed for his performance intensity.

MacPherson’s career progressed with international roles, including Arion Elessedil in MTV’s “The Shannara Chronicles,” running for two seasons from 2016 to 2017. He also appeared in the FOX series ‘A.P.B.’ and the US indie film ‘Generational Sins’ in 2016, and had a role in Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ in 2018. His lead role as Lt. Kane Somerville in “The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One” (SFv1) further highlighted his range. From 2017 to 2020, MacPherson starred as Sgt Samuel Wyatt in Cinemax’s action series “Strike Back,” filmed across various international locations. He was subsequently cast as Hugo Crast in AppleTV+’s science fiction adaptation ‘Foundation,’ filmed in 2020-2021 and premiering in September 2021. In his leisure time, MacPherson is a triathlete, having represented Australia at three world championship distances and completing multiple Ironman triathlons.
