Daniela Melchior dos Reis Lopes Pereira was born on November 1, 1996, in Almada, Portugal. From a young age, she showed interest in acting and participated in school and local theatre productions. She joined a modeling agency at 16, leading to small commercials before securing her first television role. Melchior began her professional career in 2014 with a recurring role in the telenovela “Mulheres,” appearing in 316 episodes. This was followed by 68 episodes of the teen drama “Massa Fresca” in 2016. Her career progressed with a leading role as Cláudia Andrade in the 2017 telenovela “Ouro Verde,” which ran for 221 episodes and later won an International Emmy for Best Telenovela.
Her film debut came in 2018 with “The Black Book” and the comedy-drama “Parque Mayer,” for which she received a Sophia Award nomination for Best Actress. In the same year, she provided the Portuguese dubbing for Gwen Stacy in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” A turning point in her career occurred when a U.S. representative noticed her in “Parque Mayer,” leading to her pursuit of international roles. In 2019, James Gunn cast her as Cleo Cazo, also known as Ratcatcher 2, in the DC Extended Universe film “The Suicide Squad” (2021). This role marked her English-language debut and made her the first Portuguese actress in a DCEU film. Critics noted her performance as a standout in the film.
Following her success in “The Suicide Squad,” Melchior took on roles in several Hollywood productions. She appeared in the crime thriller “Marlowe” (2022) and the action thriller “Assassin Club” (2023). In 2022, Vin Diesel offered her a role in “Fast X” (2023) after observing her performance in “The Suicide Squad,” where she played Isabel Neves. James Gunn specifically wrote the character Ura for her in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” (2023), making her the first Portuguese actress in an MCU film. She was also cast in the action film “Road House” (2024), a remake, and is set to appear in “American Sweatshop” (2025), “Anaconda” (2025), “Violent Night 2” (2026), and “Balls Up” (TBA).
