Born on October 12, 1976, in Pullman, Washington, Danny Sprinkle developed a strong foundation in basketball from an early age. He was a two-time all-state selection at Helena High School in Montana before playing college basketball at Montana State University. During his playing career at Montana State, Sprinkle earned Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors in 1996 and was selected all-league for three consecutive seasons, including a first-team selection in 1997. He concluded his playing career as the ninth-leading scorer in school history with 1,497 points. Sprinkle graduated from Montana State in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in health and human development and was later inducted into the Montana State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021 for his individual achievements.
Sprinkle began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Cal State Northridge in 2000-01, where he spent six seasons. He then had a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Montana State from 2006 to 2008, followed by five more seasons at Cal State Northridge. From 2013 to 2019, he served as an assistant at Cal State Fullerton, notably contributing to their NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018. In April 2019, he returned to his alma mater, Montana State, as the head coach. Under his leadership, Montana State achieved an 81-43 record over four seasons, including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2023, marking the program’s first tournament berths since 1996. He was named Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2022 and guided the Bobcats to Big Sky regular season and tournament championships in 2022.
In April 2023, Sprinkle was appointed head coach at Utah State, where he had immediate success. In his inaugural season, he led the Aggies to a 28-7 record, securing the Mountain West regular-season title and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Utah State achieved its first NCAA Tournament win since 2001 under his guidance. For his performance, he received the 2023-24 Steve Fisher Mountain West Coach of the Year award and was a finalist for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award. On March 25, 2024, Sprinkle was hired as the head coach for the University of Washington men’s basketball team. In his first season at UW, the Huskies finished 13-18 in the Big Ten conference. He has a career head coaching record of 122-68, demonstrating consistent success and significant contributions to collegiate basketball programs.
