Darrell Hill is an American track and field athlete who competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the shot put. Hill qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after throwing a new personal best of 21.63 meters (70 feet 11 inches 12 inches). His previous personal best of 21.16m was set at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California, just two weeks prior.
At the 2017 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Darrell finished fourth in the shot put opener. Hill set a personal best of 22.44 meters (73 feet 7 inches 14 inches) at the 2017 Diamond League competition Memorial Van Damme, an annual sports event held at Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium. The throw set a new record and moved him up to number 13 on the all-time list. Hill won a gold medal in the 2018 NACAC Championships in Toronto. Hill also won the 2018 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the Shot Put.
Throughout 2017, he worked with Art Venegas, the coach of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Hill will be coached by Gregory Garza, who is situated at San Diego State University, from 2018 through April 2020. Hill relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in April 2020 to work with the professional group Desert High Performance and be coached by Ryan Whiting. Hill is sponsored by Nike.
