Genevieve LaCaze is an Olympic athlete, known for holding the Australian record in the 3000 meters steeplechase. In 2016, she made the Olympic finals in both the 5000m and the 3000m steeplechase, becoming one of the fastest Australians to date.
Her athletic career picked up in college, when LaCaze accepted a scholarship to attend University of Florida. There she competed for the Florida Gators cross country and track and field teams in the National Collegiate Athletics Association from 2009 to 2012. She finished second in the 2012 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in the 3000 meters steeplechase, eventually qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics, where she would represent Australia as their sole female steeplechase competitor.
After breaking her ankle in 2013, she came back stronger than ever, setting a personal record and earning fifth place at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth games. Then at the 2016 Rio Olympics, LaCaze qualified for finals in both the 3000-meter and 1500-meter steeplechase events, finishing in ninth and twelfth, respectively. She went on to finish twelfth at the 2017 World Championships and fifth at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. LaCaze can be found representing Nike, and engaging with her hundreds of thousands of fans across social media platforms. She eagerly awaits to compete in the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics.
