Usain Bolt is a world-famous former sprinter, who holds the record for the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4 x 100 metre relay. Bolt is considered by many to be the greatest and most prolific sprinter in world history, due to his domination in competition. Bolt has achieved great success at the Olympic Games, becoming an eight-time Olympic gold medalist. Bolt has enjoyed worldwide fame for his achievements as a sprinter, and is heralded as the only sprinter to win Olympic 100m and 200m at three consecutive Olympics.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Bolt’s profile was further heightened when he achieved a double sprint victory in world record breaking times, becoming the first athlete to hold both records. Bolt is an eleven-time World Champion, becoming the most successful athlete that the Wold Championships has seen. Bolt’s personal best of 9.58 seconds in the 100 metre sprint is the fastest ever recorded, he also holds the second fastest time of 9.63 seconds.
Due to Bolt’s tremendous achievements, he earned the nickname ‘Lightning Bolt’. Bolt is a much-loved figure in athletics and is widely celebrated in the media, he has won several awards for his achievements including IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year and Laureus World Sportsman of the Year. In 2003, Bolt became the youngest member of the Order of Jamaica and was awarded for outstanding performance in the fielf of athletics at international level. Since retiring from his athletics career, Bolt has appeared on several television shows including Saturday Night Live and competed in a rap battle on The Late Show with James Corden, which he won.
