David Chisnall was born on September 12, 1980, in St Helens, England, and later moved to Morecambe. His professional darts career began after an injury shifted his focus from football at age 17. Chisnall made his debut in BDO events at the 2004 Welsh Open. In 2007, he secured his first significant title by winning the BDO Gold Cup. The following year, 2008, saw him claim both the Isle of Man Open and the England National Championship, with 2000 BDO World Champion Ted Hankey advising him to turn professional after their match. He reached the final of the 2010 BDO World Championship, experiencing a notable comeback against Ted Hankey in the semi-finals before ultimately losing to Martin Adams.
Chisnall transitioned to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) circuit in 2011 after successfully navigating the inaugural Qualifying School. His entry into the PDC was marked by immediate impact, including a nine-dart finish in his first PDC event in Halle, Germany. He quickly began accumulating titles on the PDC Pro Tour, winning his first PDC title at a Players Championship event in Crawley later that year. By 2012, Chisnall had won five Players Championship events, earning him the title of PDC Best Newcomer and later PDC Pro Tour Player of the Year. He made his first PDC major event semi-final at the 2012 UK Open.
Throughout his PDC career, Chisnall has secured 26 PDC ranking titles, including eight European Tour events. He has been a finalist in six televised premier events, such as the World Grand Prix (2013, 2019), Grand Slam of Darts (2014), Masters (2016, 2022), and Players Championship Finals (2016). His best performance in the PDC World Championship is reaching the semi-finals in 2021. Chisnall has represented England in the PDC World Cup of Darts on three occasions, reaching the semi-finals twice. He has been recognized as the PDC Pro Tour Player of the Year multiple times (2013, 2023, 2024), demonstrating consistent performance at a high level.
