About

Born on June 24, 1952, in Melrose, Massachusetts, Dave Lapham distinguished himself early in his athletic career. He was a three-year letterman and captain in both basketball and football at Wakefield Memorial High School, where he is now a Hall of Fame member. Furthermore, he was a four-year letterman and captain in track. His collegiate career at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications saw him letter in football for three seasons and serve as a team captain. His talent was recognized through participation in prestigious games including the 1973 East–West Shrine Game, the North-South Game, the Senior Bowl, and the Hula Bowl, highlighting his high-level performance and leadership qualities prior to his professional career.

Lapham’s professional football journey began when he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 1974 NFL draft. He played as a guard, center, and tackle, demonstrating versatility across all five offensive line positions during his tenure with the Bengals from 1974 to 1983. A significant achievement during this period was his role in the 1981 Bengals team that secured the AFC championship, advancing to Super Bowl XVI. In 1984, he signed with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL, playing two seasons before retiring from professional football in 1985. His consistent performance and adaptability were key contributions throughout his playing career in both the NFL and USFL.

Following his retirement from playing, Lapham initiated a distinguished broadcasting career in 1986. He became the color analyst for Bengals’ radio broadcasts, a role he has held for over 30 seasons, providing expert commentary alongside play-by-play announcers such as Dan Hoard. He also features as a local Bengals TV analyst and radio host for “Bengals Weekly with Zac Taylor.” Beyond local coverage, Lapham has served as a Big 12 football analyst for Fox Sports Network and appears on the local sports commentary program “Sports Rock.” In addition to his broadcasting work, he is actively involved in the Cincinnati community as the president of Charities M.D., a foundation that provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in healthcare.
