Drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft, David Fletcher quickly demonstrated his exceptional baseball acumen after a distinguished collegiate career. While at Loyola Marymount University, he earned First Team All-WCC honors twice and was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014, also recognized as a Baseball America and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-American in 2014, and Loyola Marymount University Male Athlete of the Year in 2015. Fletcher rapidly ascended through the Angels’ minor league system, beginning with the Orem Owlz in 2015 and progressing through Single-A Burlington, Single-A Inland Empire, Double-A Arkansas, and Triple-A Salt Lake. He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Los Angeles Angels on June 13, 2018, where he immediately established himself as a contact-hitting infielder renowned for his defensive versatility.
While with the Gwinnett Stripers, Fletcher began exploring a significant new dimension to his athletic versatility, transitioning to professional pitching, specifically developing a knuckleball. He made his first professional start as a pitcher in May 2024, underscoring his adaptability and continued evolution as a multi-talented athlete in Major League Baseball’s ecosystem.
