About

David Lamar Givens was born on August 16, 1980, in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Humble High School in Texas before playing college football at Notre Dame, primarily as a running back. After his collegiate career, Givens was selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft as the 253rd overall pick, beginning his professional career as a wide receiver.

Givens quickly established himself in the NFL, catching nine passes and one touchdown in his rookie year of 2002. His performance steadily improved, culminating in a significant role during the Patriots’ championship seasons. He recorded 34 catches and six touchdowns in 2003, followed by 56 catches and three touchdowns in 2004. During his tenure with the Patriots, Givens was a key player in their postseason success, scoring at least one touchdown in seven consecutive playoff games, including both Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX, where he contributed to the team’s two Super Bowl victories.

In March 2006, Givens signed a 5-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. His time with the Titans was impacted by injury, as he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Week 10 of his first season with the team and subsequently missed the entire 2007 season. He was released by the Titans in February 2008. Givens concluded his NFL career having played 58 games, with 166 receptions for 2,318 yards and 12 touchdowns. He later pursued a lawsuit against the Titans in 2009, which was dismissed in 2010.
