David Griffin

David Griffin began his distinguished career in professional basketball with the Phoenix Suns in 1993, steadily progressing through the organization to become Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations by June 2007. During his 17 seasons with the Suns, he gained extensive experience across public relations and basketball operations, building a robust foundation for his future leadership roles within the NBA. In September 2010, Griffin transitioned to the Cleveland Cavaliers as Vice President of Basketball Operations. He quickly rose, being appointed interim General Manager on February 6, 2014, and made permanent on May 12, 2014.

His return to executive leadership came on April 17, 2019, when he was named Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the New Orleans Pelicans. In this role, Griffin spearheaded significant team overhauls, orchestrating the high-profile trade of Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers and securing the number one overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, which led to the selection of Zion Williamson. Under his guidance, the Pelicans notably made two playoff appearances. After six seasons leading the Pelicans’ basketball operations, Griffin concluded his tenure on April 14, 2025.
