Young writer and entrepreneur David Olshanetsky is the creator of The Shitney Spears, the most popular Tumblr account in Europe, and the most popular LGBTQ+ blog in the world. He is also the host of the pop-culture podcast, David’s Out For A Good Time, on which he has interviewed many celebrities, including Charli XCX, Olly Alexander, and Adam Lambert.
Born in Israel, Olshanetsky travelled with his family to Russia and America, before finally settling in Surrey. He began blogging in 2013 when he was just 14, and his popularity increased after his followers became interested in his diary-style entries in which he talked about his relationships. The following year he released a collaborative post with singer, songwriter and music video director, Charli XCX, which was sponsored by Red Bull. And by 2016 he was shown by Tumblr to have the most popular male account in Europe, and the fifth most popular account globally. In 2017, he worked with Festival Republic and Live Nation to lower homophobia and hate crime rates at the most popular British music festivals. He also reported on behalf of Tumblr at the V Festival the same year. In 2018 he launched the Spotify podcast, David’s out for a good time, covering LGBTQ+ and pop-culture topics.
Olshanetsky regularly connects with his legions of dedicated fans and followers through Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, posting pictures and videos about his life. His podcast is also available on its official website, theshitneyspears.com.
