DeMarcus Cousins was born on August 13, 1990, in Mobile, Alabama. He attended LeFlore Magnet High School, where he achieved recognition as a first-team Parade All-American in 2009. Cousins continued his basketball career at the University of Kentucky, playing for the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team for one season (2009-2010). During his time at Kentucky, he earned consensus second-team All-American honors in 2010, averaging 15.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game. His performance alongside future NBA player John Wall led the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Cousins declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman year.
His professional career began when he was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2010 NBA draft. He signed his rookie contract with the Kings in July 2010 and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team at the end of the 2010-11 season. Cousins played for the Sacramento Kings until 2017, where he established himself as a dominant center before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. From 2015 to 2018, Cousins was named an NBA All-Star four times, highlighting his consistent presence among the league’s top players. His career also includes two gold medals with the United States national team, first at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and then at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Throughout his NBA tenure, Cousins played for several teams, including the New Orleans Pelicans (2017-2018), Golden State Warriors (2018-2019), Houston Rockets (2020-2021), Los Angeles Clippers (2021), Milwaukee Bucks (2021-2022), and Denver Nuggets (2022). Following his NBA career, he broadened his professional experience by playing internationally for teams such as Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico (2023, 2025), Taiwan Beer Leopards in Taiwan (2023-2024), and Selenge Bodons in Mongolia (2025).
