Cordero Matthew Zuckerman, known by his stage name Denali, was born on April 1, 1992, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Raised by parents of Mexican and Jewish descent, Zuckerman developed a diverse skill set from a young age. He pursued figure skating, becoming a double gold medalist in the U.S. Figure Skating moves and freestyle category. In 2013, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Utah, with a minor in comparative literature and Korean.
Denali’s professional career in figure skating included performing with notable entertainment companies such as Cirque du Soleil, SeaWorld, and Royal Caribbean Productions. She also lent her choreography skills to Team USA figure skaters Mariah Bell, Amber Glenn, and the ice dancing pair Ashley Cain-Gribble and Timothy LeDuc. These experiences laid the groundwork for her distinctive drag persona, which often incorporates her ice skating prowess.
Her drag career gained significant recognition when she competed on the thirteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. As the first contestant from Alaska and the first to perform in ice skates on the show, Denali made a memorable impact. During her time on the show, she showcased her lip-syncing abilities, notably eliminating Kahmora Hall. She also participated in challenges such as portraying a Russian bot in “Social Media: The Unverified Rusical” and impersonating Jonathan Van Ness during Snatch Game, ultimately placing 8th. Denali later returned to compete on the tenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.
