Deon Burton has transitioned from a successful professional football career to various coaching roles, sharing his extensive experience with emerging talent. After scoring the critical goal in May 1996 that secured Portsmouth’s position in the First Division, Deon Burton went on to achieve significant recognition, including being named Jamaican Sportsman of the Year in 1997. That same year, his impressive performance earned him a £1 million transfer to Premier League club Derby County under manager Jim Smith, marking a key milestone in his ascent. During his tenure with Derby, Burton also completed loan agreements with Stoke City in February 2002 and a second stint at Portsmouth in August 2002, before re-signing permanently with Portsmouth in December 2002 and contributing to their promotion at the end of that season.
Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Burton joined West Bromwich Albion as a youth coach in 2018. His leadership qualities quickly shone through, leading to his appointment as manager of the West Bromwich Albion U23 team in July 2020. Under his guidance, the West Brom U23 team achieved a notable victory in the Premier League Cup in May 2022, showcasing his exceptional ability to develop emerging talent and achieve tangible results. Beyond his club commitments, Burton further extends his expertise through his independent venture, the Deon Burton Training Academy, providing specialized football training.
