Derrick Williams

Derrick Williams is a professional basketball player who has made a significant impact in both the NBA and various international leagues. After being named the Pac-10 Player of the Year and a Consensus second-team All-American in 2011, Derrick Williams was selected as the second overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, a testament to his impactful college career. His freshman year also saw significant recognition, earning him Freshman All-American, All-Pac-10 first team honors, and the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year award in 2010, averaging 15.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Williams further cemented his early professional standing by being named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2012.

Williams spent two and a half seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in November 2013. During his tenure with the Kings, he achieved a personal-best 31 points in a game against the Dallas Mavericks in December 2013. He later matched this career-high with the New York Knicks in January 2016. His NBA journey continued with stints on several other prominent teams, including the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

He went on to play for Valencia Basket and Maccabi Tel Aviv, consistently performing at a high level. In 2022, Williams’s talents were recognized again when he was named a Greek League All-Star while playing for Panathinaikos. He continues to showcase his professional prowess and leadership on the court, currently playing for the Mets de Guaynabo, maintaining his reputation as a versatile and accomplished athlete in the global basketball landscape.
