Born on August 13, 1987, in Nyack, New York, Devin McCourty’s football journey began alongside his twin brother, Jason, at Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. Despite receiving only one scholarship offer, from Rutgers University, he excelled in college. After redshirting his freshman year, McCourty became a consistent performer, accumulating 38 tackles and two interceptions in 2006. He earned All-Big East academic selections and was named to the All-Big East first-team in his senior year, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. His consistent performance and leadership qualities were evident early in his career.
McCourty was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (27th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He quickly made an impact, earning Pro Bowl and Second-team All-Pro honors in his rookie season as a cornerback. Over his 13-season tenure with the Patriots, he demonstrated versatility by transitioning to free safety. He was a key defensive leader, serving as a team captain for multiple seasons and contributing to three Super Bowl championships (XLIX, LI, LIII). He notably made NFL history with his twin brother, Jason, as the first twins to play in and win a Super Bowl together (LIII).
Throughout his career, McCourty was acknowledged for his commitment both on and off the field. He consistently started almost every game, missing only five games in 13 seasons, and holds the record for most postseason starts for a defensive player. His dedication extended to various philanthropic efforts and community work, highlighting his influence beyond sports. After announcing his retirement in March 2023, McCourty joined NBC’s “Football Night in America” as a commentator, continuing his engagement with the sport.
