Josip Pavić

Josip Pavić, born on January 15, 1982, in Split, Croatia, established himself as a prominent figure in international water polo. He served as the goalkeeper for the Croatian national team, participating in three Olympic Games in 2008, 2012, and 2016. His career highlights include winning a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Pavić was recognized for his performance at the 2012 Olympic tournament, where he was widely regarded as the best goalkeeper.

His extensive career with the Croatian national team yielded 15 medals across various major competitions. Beyond his Olympic successes, Pavić secured a World Championship title in 2007 and a European Championship gold medal in 2010. Notably, he was the sole goalkeeper for Croatia at the 2010 European Championships in Zagreb. His accomplishments were further acknowledged with individual awards, including being named the FINA World Water Polo Player of the Year in 2012 and the MVP of the 2012 Olympic Tournament. He also held the captaincy for the Croatian national water polo team from 2013 to 2016.

In 2015, Pavić joined the Greek club Olympiacos, where he continued to achieve success. He won the LEN Champions League in the 2017–18 season as captain and was named the Final Eight MVP. Post-retirement from professional water polo, he transitioned his career to the Ministry of Tourism, continuing a path of public engagement after 19 years in sports.
