About

Duncan McKenzie, born on June 10, 1950, in Grimsby, England, began his football career as a striker. He played for Nottingham Forest from 1969 to 1974, also having loan spells with Mansfield Town in 1969-1970 and 1972-1973. A key period in his early career was the 1973-74 season, where he scored 26 goals for Nottingham Forest and played a significant role in their FA Cup run, including a notable performance against Manchester City in January 1974. His skill on the field earned him attention, leading to his transfer to Leeds United.

At Leeds United, McKenzie was signed by Brian Clough and quickly established himself, featuring as Allan Clarke’s striking partner in the 1975-76 season, where he scored 16 goals in 39 matches. Despite his talent, his inconsistent performances led to a move to Anderlecht in Belgium at the end of the 1975-76 season, where he contributed to winning the 1976 European Super Cup. He returned to England in December 1976 to play for Everton, and later joined Chelsea in September 1978 for £165,000, making 16 appearances and scoring four goals before moving to Blackburn Rovers for £80,000 in March 1979, helping them gain promotion from the third division in 1980.

McKenzie concluded his professional football career with the Tulsa Roughnecks in the North American Soccer League in 1981, and later played for the Chicago Sting in 1982 and Ryoden in Hong Kong. Following his retirement from football, he pursued a career as a newspaper columnist and became a well-known after-dinner speaker. He also served as the replacement for Danny Baker on Radio Five’s “6-0-6” program, showcasing his ability to connect with audiences beyond the football pitch.
