About

Dylan Christopher Minnette was born on December 29, 1996, in Evansville, Indiana. His acting career began at the age of seven after being scouted by an agent. He subsequently relocated to Los Angeles, California, to further his professional development. Minnette secured his first notable television role at age eight, portraying a young Charlie Sheen in “Two and a Half Men” (2005). In the same year, he appeared in an episode of “Drake & Josh.” He also had recurring roles as young Michael Scofield on “Prison Break” (2005-2006), David on “Lost” (2004), Clay Norman on TNT’s “Saving Grace” (2007-2010), and Reed on “Men of a Certain Age” (2010-2011). His early career also included appearances in “Grey’s Anatomy” (2007), “Mad TV” (2006), “Ghost Whisperer” (2008), “Rules of Engagement” (2008), “The Mentalist” (2008), “Medium” (2010), “Supernatural” (2009), “Lie to Me” (2011), and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2012).

In 2010, Minnette made his major feature film debut in the romantic horror film “Let Me In,” starring alongside Chloë Grace Moretz. This was followed by a role as Rex Britten in the 2012 NBC drama “Awake.” His film career continued to expand with roles in “Prisoners” (2013), “Labor Day” (2013), “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” (2014), and “Goosebumps” (2015), where he co-starred with Jack Black. A significant turning point in his career was his leading role as Clay Jensen in the Netflix drama series “13 Reasons Why,” which premiered in 2017 and concluded in 2020. This role brought him wider recognition and critical attention. He also appeared in the horror film “Don’t Breathe” (2016), “The Open House” (2018), and the fifth “Scream” film (2022). In 2022, he took on the role of Tyler Shultz in the Hulu limited series “The Dropout.”

Beyond acting, Minnette is actively involved in music. He is the co-lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the alternative rock band Wallows, formed with Zack Mendenhall (bass), Cole Preston (drums), and Braeden Lemasters (singer/guitar). The band, initially known as “The Feaver” and later “The Narwhals,” won a battle of the bands contest in 2010 sponsored by 98.7 FM and performed at the Vans Warped Tour in 2011. Wallows has released several singles and EPs, including their debut album “Nothing Happens” in 2019, followed by “Remote” (2020) and “Tell Me That It’s Over” (2022). They performed at Coachella in 2022 and released their third studio album, “Model,” in 2024. Minnette has indicated a renewed interest in acting after prioritizing music.
