Eamon Sandwith is the frontman and bassist for the Australian punk trio, The Chats. Since the band went viral with their hit single, “Smoko,” they’ve garnered praise from high profile musicians such as Queens of the Stone Age, Iggy Pop, Dave Grohl, Miguel, and even Post Malone. Now, the group holds a global publishing deal with Universal, and founded their own record label, Bargain Bin Records.
Hailing from Queensland, Sandwith formed the band in high school, joining forces with bandmates Josh Price and Matt Boddis. The group released their self-titled EP, The Chats, which Triple J called “seven joyous sky-punching tracks.” Success rolled in after Sandwith wrote the band’s biggest single, “Smoko,” off their sophomore EP, Get This in Ya!!. To date, the music video has over 11 million hits, and they have over 110K subscribers on YouTube.
Sandwith and the band toured New Zealand, Australia, the US, and the UK. Following this success, The Chat was nominated for two J Awards for both “Australian Video of the Year” and “Unearthed Artist of the Year,” and they received a nomination for “Best New Act” from the National Live Music Awards, as well.
Most recently, The Chat debuted their first album, High Risk Behavior, with singles that have amassed millions of streams and views on both Spotify and YouTube. Individually, Sandwith interacts with over 20K followers on Instagram, and he joined the celebrity video-sharing app, Cameo, where he’s been ranked five stars by fans. He even released his own single on Instagram, “I Hope Scott’s House Burns Down,” in response to the Prime Minister’s response to the Australian bushfires. The proceeds from the song have gone to volunteer firefighters.
