Eddie Darwin Lacy Jr. was born on June 2, 1990, in Gretna, Louisiana. His early life was marked by displacement due to Hurricane Katrina, leading his family to relocate to Geismar, Louisiana, where he attended Dutchtown High School. Despite an injury-plagued senior season, Lacy’s talent as a running back was evident, earning him recognition as a highly-rated recruit. He committed to the University of Alabama, where he played a pivotal role in three BCS National Championship victories in 2009, 2011, and 2012, showcasing his abilities early in his career.
Lacy was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round, 61st overall, of the 2013 NFL Draft. His rookie season with the Packers was highly successful, earning him the title of NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2013, a Pro Bowl selection, and second-team All-Pro honors. He recorded 1,178 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, setting new Packer rookie records for rushing yards and touchdowns in a season. He continued his strong performance in 2014, becoming only the second Packer to rush for over 1,000 yards in his first two NFL seasons, accumulating 1,139 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
Following four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, where he consistently demonstrated his capacity as a lead back, Lacy signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. Although his tenure with the Seahawks was brief and he had a less productive season, he concluded his NFL career having played 60 games with 3,614 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns, along with 107 receptions for 947 receiving yards and 6 receiving touchdowns. His career highlights include a Pro Bowl selection and several rookie of the year accolades, solidifying his impact during his time in the league.
