Eliza Butterworth

Eliza Butterworth was born on July 24, 1993, in Lincolnshire, England. Her early education was at Lincoln Minster School, where she developed an interest in acting. She further pursued her theatrical training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 2014. During her time at RADA, Butterworth performed lead roles in productions such as ‘The Daughter in Law’ and ‘The Witch of Edmonton’. She holds dual citizenship, stemming from her English father and Italian-American mother.

Butterworth’s professional career began with guest appearances in television series. In 2015, she appeared as Holly in ‘DCI Banks’ and as Lucy Hamilton in ‘WPC 56’. The same year marked a significant milestone with her casting as Aelswith in ‘The Last Kingdom’, a role she held from 2015 to 2022. Initially a recurring character, she became part of the main cast for seasons two through five, portraying a character that aged considerably throughout the series. This role required her to adapt to an older portrayal, contrasting with her actual age at the time of filming.

Her film credits include the short film ‘(A Very) Ham Fisted Stake Out’ in 2017 and ‘Say Your Prayers’ in 2020. In 2023, she lent her voice to the character Masha in ‘The Pod Generation’ and took on the role of Carly Lord in the Sky Max series ‘A Town Called Malice’. The same year, she appeared in the short film ‘Little Brown Bird’. On stage, Butterworth made her West End debut in 2021 as Princess Eugenie in ‘The Windsors: Endgame’ at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Her work has earned her recognition, including a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series at the National Film Awards UK in 2022 for her role in ‘The North Water’.
