Esha Gupta was born on November 28, 1985, in New Delhi, India. Her father was an Air Force officer, and her mother is a homemaker. She grew up in Dehradun, Hyderabad, and Delhi. Gupta completed her mass communication degree from the School of Communication, Manipal University. Her career began in the modeling world, where she participated in Femina Miss India in 2007, securing third place and winning the Miss India International title, representing India at Miss International 2007. She was also featured in the Kingfisher Calendar in 2010. She chose to pursue a career in Bollywood, foregoing a law scholarship at Newcastle University.
Gupta made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with the crime thriller ‘Jannat 2’ opposite Emraan Hashmi, a film that achieved commercial success with domestic earnings of ₹430 million. Later that year, she appeared in Vikram Bhatt’s horror thriller ‘Raaz 3D’ and Prakash Jha’s political drama ‘Chakravyuh.’ ‘Raaz 3D’ performed well at the box office, collecting approximately ₹360 million in its first three days. In 2014, she starred in the comedy film ‘Humshakals.’ She gained further recognition with the 2016 film ‘Rustom,’ which became a box office success, grossing over ₹210 crore worldwide. In 2017, she took on the main antagonist role in ‘Commando 2,’ a moderate box-office success, and also appeared in ‘Baadshaho.’ She also made her Telugu and Tamil film debuts with ‘Veedevadu.’
Her career expanded into web series in 2020 with ‘RejctX’s’ second season, followed by ‘Nakaab’ in 2021, and a role in the third season of ‘Aashram’ in 2022. She has upcoming projects including ‘Desi Magic’, ‘Hera Pheri 3’ and ‘File No. 323’. Beyond acting, Gupta has participated in environmental initiatives such as “Beach Cleanup Drives” and “Walk for saving the Mangroves.” She has also supported Surman Sansthan for girl child upliftment and education, and Sealegacy to raise awareness about saving shark species.
