Cari Elise Fletcher was born on March 19, 1994, in Asbury Park, New Jersey. She began vocal lessons at five years old. In 2011, Fletcher competed on the premiere season of *The X Factor*. Although her group, Lakoda Rayne, was eliminated, this early experience provided exposure to the music industry. She attended New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, taking a year off to pursue music full-time in Nashville, Tennessee, before graduating in 2016.
Fletcher’s career gained traction in 2015 with the independent release of her debut single, “War Paint,” which went viral on Spotify. In 2016, Spotify recognized her potential by adding her to their Spotify Spotlight list and later invited her to speak at the Fortune Tech Conference in 2019 as a success story. She furthered her independent career by releasing her debut EP, *Finding Fletcher*, in September 2016.
In August 2018, Fletcher signed with Capitol Records. Her breakthrough came in 2019 with the single “Undrunk,” which charted on the U.S. *Billboard* Hot 100. This led to her television debut on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* and performances at major festivals, including Bonnaroo, Life Is Beautiful, and Lollapalooza. She released her second EP, *You Ruined New York City for Me*, in August 2019. In 2020, her EP *The S(ex) Tapes*, inspired by a past relationship, was released. Further milestones include being named to *Forbes*’ 2022 30 Under 30 list. Her debut album, *Girl of My Dreams*, was released in 2022, debuting at number fifteen on the US *Billboard* 200, followed by her second album, *In Search of the Antidote*, in March 2024, which debuted at number three on the US *Billboard* Top Album Sales charts.
