United States Gary Cole is a versatile American actor known for his roles across film, television, and voice acting, bringing a distinctive presence to a wide range of characters.
Gary Cole served as the time-traveling Spokesguy for Kabbage, an online financial technology company providing funding to small businesses. He appeared in TV commercial campaigns in triplicate as 10 Minutes, 10 Days, and 10 Years in the Future Spokesguy.
Gary Michael Cole was born on September 20, 1956, in Park Ridge, Illinois, and raised in Rolling Meadows. He began his professional acting career on stage in Chicago, joining the esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1985. Cole’s early career included significant roles such as playing accused Army triple-murderer Capt. Jeffrey MacDonald in the miniseries “Fatal Vision” (1984) and Jack ‘Nighthawk’ Killian in the NBC drama series “Midnight Caller” (1988–1991), which brought him national attention. He further honed his craft in various off-Broadway productions in New York City, demonstrating his commitment to live theater alongside his on-screen work.
Cole’s career progression saw him embrace diverse roles, achieving widespread recognition for his comedic timing as Mike Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie” (1995) and its sequels, and as the iconic, micromanaging boss Bill Lumbergh in “Office Space” (1999). His ability to seamlessly transition between dramatic and comedic roles, as well as live-action and voice acting, became a hallmark of his career. Notable voice roles include the title character in Adult Swim’s “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” (2000–2007), Principal Shepherd on “Family Guy” (2000–present), and James Timothy Possible on “Kim Possible” (2002–2007). He also had significant recurring roles in acclaimed television series such as “The West Wing” (2003–2006) and “Veep” (2013–2019).
His recent work continues to showcase his enduring talent and adaptability. As of season 19, Cole joined the main cast of “NCIS” (2021–present) as FBI Special Agent Alden Parker, taking over as the new head of Gibbs’ team. This role further solidified his status as a prominent figure in television. Throughout his extensive career, Cole has demonstrated an ability to inhabit complex characters, from cold authority figures to endearing comedic relief, making him a recognizable and respected presence in the entertainment industry.
