Gary Michael Cole was born on September 20, 1956, in Park Ridge, Illinois, and raised in Rolling Meadows. He began his professional acting career on stage in Chicago, joining the esteemed Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1985. Cole’s early career included significant roles such as playing accused Army triple-murderer Capt. Jeffrey MacDonald in the miniseries “Fatal Vision” (1984) and Jack ‘Nighthawk’ Killian in the NBC drama series “Midnight Caller” (1988–1991), which brought him national attention. He further honed his craft in various off-Broadway productions in New York City, demonstrating his commitment to live theater alongside his on-screen work.
Cole’s career progression saw him embrace diverse roles, achieving widespread recognition for his comedic timing as Mike Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie” (1995) and its sequels, and as the iconic, micromanaging boss Bill Lumbergh in “Office Space” (1999).
