Gary Hart

Gary Hart is a former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate who has transitioned into a consultant and author focusing on national security and foreign policy. After serving as the National Campaign Director for George McGovern’s 1972 presidential campaign, Gary Hart went on to be elected to the United States Senate representing Colorado in 1974. He served two distinguished terms until 1987.

Earlier in his career, Hart earned an LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1964, following a B.D. from Yale Divinity School in 1961 and a B.A. in philosophy from Southern Nazarene University in 1958.

From 2014 to 2017, Hart served as the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, actively contributing to peace processes in the region. He authored ‘Durango’ in 2012 and ‘The Republic of Conscience’ in 2016. Hart maintains an active role in national and international security discourse, serving as Chair of the U.S. State Department’s International Security Advisory Council and Chair of the U.S.

Defense Department’s Threat Advisory Council. He has also held distinguished academic positions, including an endowed professorship at the University of Colorado at Denver and visiting lecturer roles at Oxford University and Yale University, cementing his reputation as an enduring voice on foreign policy and national security.
